Texican Café…El Paso Style Mexican Food.  Texican is an Austin native, only local here in Austin with 3 locations. I’m writing this review as part of Austin Food Blogger Alliance’s Restaurant Review, compiled yearly.  Texican Café fits the bill for Family Friendly Dining in North Austin.

My daughter asks to come to here!  She loves the chips and salsa, chicken soft tacos, rice and beans, and sharing the chicken fajitas with me! The service has always been reliable. From the time we order until we get our food, it seems timely every time.

This time I dined with my mom, my 2 children, and my nephew.  The boys shared the adult chicken soft taco plate.  (One ate the rice while the other ate the black beans)  This was my daughters first time to order from the adult menu. She had her mind set on flautas/taquitos and this was the only way they were available. I thought she could eat what she wanted and we would take the rest home. However, this was not an option because of all the toppings that were served with it.  It ended up making the flautas soft and soggy instead of crispy like she was hoping.  She did like the refried beans and rice, and of course the chips. My mom ordered the chile relleno.  She said the charro beans had an excellent smoky flavor!  I ventured out from my usual and ordered a taco salad.   I will stick with the fajitas next time or maybe the occasional sour cream enchiladas.  The fajitas come with lots of grilled red and green bell peppers (my favorite part), onions, tomatoes, rice, beans, and fixings.  I order the black beans here because they are so good and order corn for my tortillas.

But, most of all, we really enjoy the outdoor patio.  Even though we are dining in a popular Cedar Park/N. Austin shopping center, its surrounded by green plants, and pretty lights.  In the winter, there’s portable heaters and in the summer, its the usual Austin standard of misting fans. Its nice to eat brunch on the patio where my son can get his favorite everywhere – EGGS.  He gets an egg, bacon, and cheese taco with a side of fruit.

So, why does this place get my vote for family friendly?  There is a nice kid menu, but the kids usually share fajitas with us.  They get a coloring sheet that keeps them entertained for a little bit.  The kids like dining outside and we feel like we can ‘move around’ a little more while outside.  Its in a great location, and there is Bar if the adults need it!
