We know Bella does!  When we made this recipe at Kids Kitchen Camp, the kids each had a turn adding all the ingredients and stirring.  After cooking the pancakes, we added sliced fruit (that they cut themselves) to decorate their face with!

On a Saturday morning like today, I asked the kids, “Do you want pancakes or waffles?”  After much discussion and back and forth (is that really a hard question?) we chose waffles!  I remembered how good the multi-grain pancakes were and thought I’d try this recipe for waffles.

Well, it worked just fine!

“Are we frying fish or something?” my husband said as he saw me add the cornmeal.  Nope, just making MULTI-GRAIN waffles!  Whole wheat flour, cornmeal, and oats make this recipe a hardy Saturday Morning Pancake/Waffle recipe!

Multi-grain Pancake Recipe:

½ cup all purpose flour

½ cup whole wheat flour

¼ cup corn meal

¼ cup quick cooking oats

2 tbsp sugar

½ tsp baking soda

½ tsp salt

1 egg

1 cup buttermilk

(Make buttermilk with milk and add 1 tbsp lemon juice or
vinegar and let sit at least 5 min.)

2 tbsp canola oil

Makes 8 medium sized pancakes

Double the recipe, and make 12 large plate size pancakes
*Add a fruit face on top of any pancake. Strawberries – eyes, Blueberries – nose, sliced rounds of bananas for outline of smile. Drizzle with honey or maple syrup! Fun, cute and Yum!

Kids Kitchen Konnection: Making faces with fruit is always fun!  Some kids like to eat the fruit first before diving into the pancake, and that’s OK too!
