Whenever there is a themed celebration to be had, we are usually planning a party or this year, at least a special dinner menu with party decor, and of course drinks!

Why do we celebrate Cinco de Mayo in the United States? The 5th of May is actually not a big holiday in Mexico, but we started to recognize the date to celebrate the Mexican-American culture in the United States. On May 5th, 1862, it was a victory of indigenous Mexicans over European invaders during the Battle of Puebla. Today the holiday is commemorated with parades, parties, Mexican folk dancing, good food, and of course drinks like margaritas featuring lime and tequila.

Below are a couple of different takes on the traditional margarita. These two drinks are great for the approaching warm summer evenings. They’re light, refreshing, and easy to make! You just might have the ingredients around to make a drink in honor of Cinco de Mayo this year.

Simply Lime & Salt Spritzer (pictured above)

  • 1.5 oz. 100% agave tequila
  • 2 oz. Simple Limeade
  • Splash of orange juice or squeeze of fresh orange
  • Lime flavored soda water, like Topo Chico
  • Fresh Lime Wedges

Line a glass with salt by rubbing a fresh slice of lime around the rim and dipping the cup rim into a plate of salt. Place ice in the glass. Mix tequila, limeade, and orange juice together in another glass, and then pour over ice. Top with soda water for desired taste. Serve with a fresh lime wedge.

Pineapple Jalapeno & Lime Cocktail

  • 2 oz. 100% agave tequila
  • 1/2 cup pineapple juice
  • 1 tbsp lime juice or juice of 1/2 lime
  • 1/4 cup lime flavored soda water, like Topo Chico (optional)
  • 1 slice of jalapeno
  • Pineapple wedge for garnishing

Mix together tequila, pineapple juice, lime juice, and soda water. Stir in jalapeño slice. Mix well and add ice. Garnish glass with a pineapple wedge.

We hope you enjoy!
