Have you tried making pupusas at home?  This street food from El Salvador is delicious, versatile, inexpensive and easy to make with kids. I love that pupusas are one of those foods that can be made for breakfast, lunch, or a snack.  Essentially, they  are stuffed corn cakes that you can change up by what you decide to put inside.  In a recent Kids Kitchen class, we used red bell peppers, onions, black beans and cheddar jack cheese as our filling.  Then, we made our own dough out of masa (corn flour) and shaped our own individual pupusas.  We cooked these in the skillet and served them with sour cream and guacamole.  Here is the recipe.  Remember, they can be as simple as cheese, cheese and bean, or get fancy and add vegetables or even taco meat or chicken.  Most of all, have fun making them and enjoy!
