For holidays, such as Valentine’s Day, we don’t go ‘all out’ around here. The kids exchange Valentine cards with their classmates and their cousins. I sometimes put a special note in their lunchboxes that day. We usually eat as a family, almost always at home. If it falls on a weekend, I have done pink heart pancakes before (colored from sweet potato or pomegranate juice.)

For a few days leading up to Valentines Day, its easy to make their lunches a little more special. Some easy and fun ways are to include all RED foods one day, easily cutting strawberries into hearts, or cutting their regular PB&J sandwich into a heart using a cookie cutter, or even putting a special chocolate treat in their lunch (this treat is made chocolate treat is made with beets!)
